Allegrini Amarone della Valpolicella Classico 1999
 |
|
BN#126874 |
A red wine of some importance. It is full bodied, intense and elegant. The name Amarone comes from the eighteenth century when the producer had to identify wines made from dried grapes like Recioto but with completely different organoleptic characteristics. THE VINEYARD: The hills of the Valpolicella Classico region 180/280 mt a.s.l. South east exposure Soil: very varied but mostly cretaceous, calcareous, stony and well drained
This wine is traditionally drunk with game, grilled meats, stews and well matured cheeses. As the grapes are allowed to dry partially before fermenting, Amarone has a distinctive flavour which can even accompany original and exotic sweet and sour dishes. It is therefore also perfectly suited for drinking with Asian and middle-east dishes. Serve at 16°C and open the bottle an hour before drinking.
Wine Advocate
The impressive 1999 Amarone della Valpolicella is from a vintage which was anything but easy, but apparently created few problems here. Rich, jammy, and spicy aromas are followed by full and voluminous flavors, broad and warmly alcoholic with abundant super-ripe fruit and notes of chocolate, solid but voluptuous and extremely long on the finish. Drink: 2005-2020.
Score: 95.
